[ARCHIVED] Water Alert - Air in Water & Water Demand

We are aware that a number of residents in the Thoreau depot and Town center have been experiencing air in the water, which often presents itself as “cloudy” or “white” water. While this may look a bit unusual, the water is safe to drink and use as normal. There are not any health impacts associated with air in the water.

We have also been experiencing very high water demand for the last several weeks, which may be contributing to the air in the water. In an effort to alleviate this condition, we will be reducing the amount of water that is being pumped from some of our supplies. As such, we will very likely be issuing a mandatory 1-day per week lawn watering restriction within the next 24 hours UNLESS we see a notable reduction in water demand. Please reduce any unnecessary outdoor water use ASAP.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please call 978-318-3250 and leave a message with your name, address, and telephone number after the beep. The Water & Sewer Division will be checking messages Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm.
