[ARCHIVED] BFRT Awarded Public Works Project of the Year

On April 16, 2020, the Town received notice that the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail Phase 2C has been awarded the Public Works Project of the Year award for 2019 for Small Cities / Rural Communities in the category of Transportation. This prestigious award is presented for excellence in public works projects to the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail for its “complete streets” and multi-modal transportation initiatives along with the impressive design and ingenuity used in the project.

The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail follows the former Penn Central railroad; the project to recreate it into a community trail formally broke ground in the spring of 2016. The project was nominated by the New England Chapter of the APWA (American Public Works Association) for its commitment to sustainability, unique accomplishment, use of municipal resources, and environmental and community excellence among many other qualities.

For more information about this award and the work done on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, please view the information packet or visit the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail Advisory Committee webpage.
