The Town has contracted with East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project (EMMCP) to conduct localized spraying at public schools and select Town public parks in a precautionary measure against the spread of EEE. EMMCP plans on using the pesticide Mavrik Perimeter (active ingredient tau-fluvalinate, EPA#2724-478).

Application will be begin Thursday September 19th and will likely continue the next day. Application will be done after 6:00PM when the municipal locations are closed; please stay off of the properties until 9:00AM the next morning. 

Locations being sprayed are the Emerson Field, Rideout Park, all public schools.

EMMCP will apply the spray to an approximately 6-8 ft. deep perimeter in the shrubbery of each treated property. They plan to treat only the perimeter shrubbery at the schools and Emerson and Rideout fields. Playing fields and playground areas will not be treated. This is because mosquitoes are generally not present in areas with bright sunlight, but they do linger in shady, shrubby areas. The chemical is active while it is wet, but once it dries on the leaf surface there is little risk of human exposure. It is still advised that children and pets stay out of the shrubbery as a precautionary measure. 

As always, we are urging residents to take the personal protective measures and insect wear repellents, avoid areas with mosquito activity, and avoid being outdoors at dusk-dawn. 

The threat of the disease will be eliminated when we have the first hard frost that kills the mosquitoes.
