UPDATE as of 5:20PM: The leak in the propane tank has been plugged and the broken valve has been replaced. The Emerson Umbrella is being vented by the Fire Department and then surrounding residences will be metered to ensure safety. We will update when it is safe for residents in the effected area to return home.

UPDATE as of 3:30PM: The Fire Department and Police are on scene along with mutual aid. A 1000 gallon propane tank which was underground at the Emerson Umbrella was hit during construction causing the gas tank to begin to off-gas, when gas dissipates into the air. The area has been evacuated and power has been cut to the immediate area. The response team is working to safely close the tank. There is currently no definitive timeline for residents to return to their homes.

The Emerson Umbrella experienced an incident during construction. It seems that during construction activity, the top was knocked off of a large propane gas tank mounted on their roof. The Concord Fire Department is on site to ensure there is no leak and in an abundance of caution, the streets in the surrounding area have been closed including Main Street at Thoreau Street, Walden Street, Stow Street and Main Street, and Everett Street.

Residents and businesses in the immediate area have been evacuated. News crews on site are being asked to stage at the Hunt Gym. Please follow social media (@townofconcordma) for immediate updates, this is an ongoing event.
