[ARCHIVED] 369 Commonwealth Ave "Gerow Property" Purchased by Town

The Town of Concord has purchased the property at 369 Commonwealth Avenue in Concord for public recreation use. The property was acquired for use as a recreational property with a favorable vote at the 2018 Annual Town Meeting. Planned use for the parcel, which sits on Warner’s Pond, includes housing along with hiking, boating, picnicking,  and other similar activities. The close proximity to the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail makes the parcel incredibly valuable from a recreational perspective and will allow better community access to the outdoors throughout Concord as it connects to other public lands and activities.

“It is exciting to have the acquisition phase of the project complete because we can now move forward with the design and community input stages of the park development. Ryan Kane (Recreation Director) and I are excited to be involved in the creation of a brand new park, that type of opportunity does not often come up” said Kate Hodges, Assistant Town Manager.

After closing on the 7.03 acre property in July, the Town has begun to look how to best utilize all that the land has to offer by employing the services of a land use and design consultant, Greeman-Pedersen, Inc.. Two public forums will be held for community input on the property.

The first public forum will be held at the Gerow Property at 369 Commonwealth Ave on August 28st from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. The forum will include time to walk the property and a presentation. Parking will be available in the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail parking lot as well as along one side of the dirt driveway to the property. Light refreshments will be served.

The second public forum will be held on September 17th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Hearing Room at the Town House at 22 Monument Square.
