The Town of Concord Celebrates Reopening of Doug White Fields
Game on! The new and improved Doug White Fields at Concord-Carlisle High School are officially open, just in time for the fall sports season. This summer, the fields' aging artificial turf was successfully replaced, a project celebrated by town officials, project leaders, and community members.
Town Manager Kerry Lafleur praised the collaborative spirit that made the project possible, stating, "The successful completion of the project is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the Concord community."
The Friends of Concord-Carlisle Playing Fields (FCCPF), led by Seth van der Swaagh and Erik Jarnryd, provided critical funding, while Phil Griffiths, Chair of the Recreation Commission, served as a key advocate, guiding the project through the public engagement process with the Recreation Commission. The Concord-Carlisle Regional School District (CCRSD), a primary user of the fields, also provided important perspective on their use.
The town's Public Works department managed the project, working with the consulting firm Gale Associates on planning and construction. Erik Shaw, Assistant Superintendent of Highway & Grounds, credited Gale Associates with keeping the project on track, noting, "The project was designed, out for bid, and substantially completed on time and ahead of schedule, in a short amount of time."
Sprinturf conducted the installation phase of the project. Despite facing very hot weather, their crew completed the turf replacement on schedule. The new field features the latest in turf technology, including an injury-reducing shock pad, and officially opened for use on Friday, August 15, 2025.
