PUBLIC WARNED OF HOAX CALLS
Numerous members of the public have reported to State Police that they received hoax telephone calls this afternoon that showed the phone number ofthe calls’ origin to be the number of the State Police South BostonBarracks, 617-740-7710.
When the call recipients answered, they were told to hold for an officer regarding a complaint or warrant that had been issued against them. The“officer” then told the call recipients they were to get money — in some casesseveral thousand dollars — and meet police at local shopping centers to resolvethe matter.
The calls are hoaxes. Anyone receiving calls like these, or calls of any similar nature, should immediately hang up. Never go anywhere or provide anypersonal information or money as a result of an unsolicited, unexpected, orsuspicious phone call. Please be aware that no police department will ever ask for any amount of money to be turned over to it.
Other forms of telephone scam involve a person calling stating that a family member or friend is in trouble and in need of monies. Residents should again never give any information to unknown parties over the telephone. VERIFY the claim by checking with other family members or friends before sending or transferring any monies. Often a simple phone call will verify that the call is a hoax.
If you should receive any such phone calls report them to the Concord Police Department at 978-318-3400
