Concord Police to Host Citizen's Police Academy

Chief Joseph O'Connor is pleased to announce that the Concord Police Department is now accepting applicants for its second citizen's academy, which begins next month.
The 10-week citizen's police academy will begin on April 12 , with classes held every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the police station. Participants will learn about what officers and dispatchers do on a day-to-day basis with interactive activities. Topics/classes include:

• Community Policing
• Tour of the station and the dispatch room
• Tour of the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction
• New recruit training
• Officer safety
• Motor vehicle law
• Domestic violence
• D.A.R.E program
• Information on frauds/scams
• Explanations on use of force and Tasers
• Active shooter training
• Drunk driving
• Police use of force including “shoot don’t shoot”

We are happy to again offer an opportunity for citizens to learn more about the department.  Our Officers and Public Safety Dispatchers are looking forward to continuing to this community policing initiative.

The Department hosted its first-ever citizen's academy late last year, and it was a resounding success, with 11 members of the community graduating and learning a great deal about law enforcement.

Those interested in participating in the academy should contact Inspector Jeff Shelley at Jshelley@concordma.gov with a brief summary of who you are and why you would like to attend.
