[ARCHIVED] Fire at 240 Fairhaven Hill Road

UPDATE: Fire Chief Thomas Judge reports that the 4-alarm fire that destroyed a house on Fairhaven Hill Road in Concord on Friday, December 27th remains under investigation by the Concord Fire Department and the Massachusetts Fire District 14 Regional Fire Investigation Team.

Multiple companies remained on scene as of 1 p.m. Saturday, December 28th, and were working to extinguish hot spots that remained from the blaze. Crews also continue to work on demolition of the property to assist investigators.

Fire Department crews from Concord as well as Stow and Boxborough remained on scene. More than a dozen local fire departments responded with assistance at the scene on Friday.

There have been no injuries to firefighters, and the homeowners were not at home at the time of the fire. A dollar amount of property loss has not been released, but the house is said to be a total loss.

Firefighters responded to the fire after receiving a call at 9:37 a.m. Friday, December 27th, from a caretaker for a mansion located at 240 Fairhaven Hill Road.

Firefighters began an aggressive attack on the first floor, but due to the heavy fire within the home crews were pulled out of the interior and began a defensive attack. A fourth alarm was struck to bring additional manpower to the scene.

The house is located in a private residential neighborhood that is served by a small diameter potable water service. The service was installed in the 1920s and is fed by a common private water supply.

“I commend the work of our firefighters in dealing with this massive fire yesterday and through the night, and thank the numerous departments that provided local aid,” Chief Judge said.
