[ARCHIVED] The Finance Committee Invites you to a Public Hearing on Fiscal Sustainability

Concerned About Rising Property Taxes?

If you are concerned about Concord’s real estate property taxes, please join the Concord Finance Committee and many of your fellow residents for a public hearing on the issue of Fiscal Sustainability.  The hearing will be held at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center, at 7 PM, on Thursday, February 15, 2018.

From January, 2007, to January, 2016, Concord’s median property tax bill increased by 46 percent, three times the increase in the Social Security “Cost of Living Allowance” (COLA; 15.4 percent).

These property tax increases paid for new school buildings and enhanced educational and municipal services.  The quality of public education and municipal government in Concord is very high.  In the 2016 “Town Government Survey Report”, 92 percent of respondents rated “overall quality of services from Town government” good or excellent.

At the same time, there are indications that the Town’s social and economic diversity, a definer of town character many of Concord’s residents consider to be very important, may be eroding.  If this is the case, do rising real estate property taxes play a role in this phenomenon?  Are you concerned about rising real estate property taxes?  Please join members of the Finance Committee and other interested citizens at this Public Hearing on Fiscal Sustainability, at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center, at 7 PM, on February 15th, to share your thoughts on property taxes.
