Where can I properly dispose of my unused medications?

The Concord Police Department (219 Walden Street) has a kiosk for safe disposal of sharps and unwanted
medications. The disposal is FREE, discreet, and the kiosk is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Unwanted sharps and medications may also be brought to the DropOff & SwapOff, May 5, 2018

Take the following preventative steps to safeguard the medications in your home:

• Instead of a medicine cabinet, keep drugs hidden, lock them up, or remove them from the home.
• Safeguard all medicines maintained at home by monitoring quantities and controlling access.
• Take inventory. Write down names and amounts of medications you currently have, and check regularly to see if anything is missing.
• If your child is on prescribed medication, monitor the dosages and refills. Set clear rules, such as not sharing the medications and always following proper dosages.
• Warn your youngsters that taking prescription or OTC drugs without a doctor’s supervision can be just as dangerous and potentially lethal as taking street drugs.
• Supervise your child’s internet use: many pharmacy sites are not regulated and will sell your child medications without prescriptions.
• Properly dispose of old, expired or unused medicines in the trash. Hide or mix them with cat litter or coffee grounds before throwing them away in an empty can or bag. DO NOT flush medications down the drain or toilet, unless the label indicates it is safe to do so.

Use either the CPD Sharps/Med disposal kiosk or the DropOff & SwapOff to properly dispose of

sharps/medications. The next DropOff & SwapOff will be on May 5, 2018.
