[ARCHIVED] Notice of Appointment: Fire Chief

Town Manager Kerry Lafleur is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Whitney as Fire Chief, effective Sunday September 7, 2025, following his successful term as Interim Chief and the retirement of Chief Judge.

"I am pleased to officially appoint Chief Whitney as our new Fire Chief," said Town Manager Kerry Lafleur. "His proven leadership, extensive experience, and dedication to the department and our community have been evident throughout his career. I am confident that his commitment to developing our staff and his clear vision for the department's future will ensure that the Concord Fire Department remains a leader in public safety."

Chief Whitney began his career with the Concord Fire Department as a firefighter in November 1991. He has since risen through the ranks, serving as a Lieutenant in 2011, a Captain in 2016, and most recently as Assistant Fire Chief in July 2023. A key highlight of his career is his critical role in securing a $995,680 FEMA grant to train 14 employees to become paramedics, an initiative that will expand the town’s Advanced Life Support (ALS) capabilities. His professional qualifications include the prestigious Massachusetts Fire Chief accreditation and a Chief Fire Officer Management Training Program certification. In addition, he has been an instructor with the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy since February 1991 and was promoted to one of the Assistant Coordinator positions at the Academy in 2000.

"I am incredibly honored and grateful for this opportunity to lead the Concord Fire Department," said Chief Whitney. "This is an exceptional team of dedicated professionals, and I am committed to investing in their growth and development. My focus will be on strengthening our operational readiness and fostering an environment where every member has the resources and training they need to succeed. Together, we will continue to build on our legacy of outstanding service and innovation for the residents of Concord."
