Massachusetts is currently in a high fire danger condition. With numerous fires in the state over the past weeks and continuing conditions that are conducive to rapid fire growth, the fire department is placing a restriction on open burning in accordance with the Massachusetts State Fire Code, Section 10.10.2.
Effective immediately, and until further notice, the following restrictions are in place regarding outdoor burning:
1. Outdoor Burning Restriction:
Due to prevailing weather conditions, dry conditions, and increased fire risk, all outdoor burning activities are hereby prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Recreational campfires
- Agricultural burns
- Residential yard burns (e.g., yard waste, brush burning)
- Fire pits or bonfires
2. Duration of the Restriction:
This ban will remain in effect until the weather conditions improve and a subsequent review determines it is safe to resume outdoor burning activities. Updates will be provided through the Fire Department’s official channels.
3. Safety Recommendations:
Residents and businesses are urged to take extra precautions to prevent any fires from spreading. Ensure all outdoor equipment, grills, and any other items that can generator flame, heat or sparks are used with care.
4. Exceptions
Any exceptions must be in coordination with the fire department and have an approved safety plan.
