[ARCHIVED] Hanscom Draft Environmental Impact Report Rejected

Hanscom Expansion Project DEIR Certificate

Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper rejected the draft environmental impact report (DEIR) submitted by the developers for a project proposing an additional 17 jet hangers and the addition of another for private jets at Hanscom Field, which is managed by the Massachusetts Port Authority.  Tepper determined that the Hanscom Field private jet expansion project Draft Environmental Impact Report does not adequately and properly comply with MEPA regulations.   At minimum this will delay the private jet hangar expansion project, requiring the proponent to submit a supplemental impact report that adequately describes the impact of their proposal. This includes requiring detailed responses to all comment letters – including the letters from HATS and from each municipality.  The DEIR received extensive public input, approximately 1,500 comment letters from legislators, local officials, residents and community groups and a petition signed by 13,000 people.

There is no deadline set for the return of the supplemental DEIR from the developer to address the state's concerns.  Once the report is filed, the public has 30 days to comment, though the comment period can be extended by the state, as it did with the DEIR.
