[ARCHIVED] Patriots' Day Schedule Update from Minute Man National Park

Minute Man National Historical Park: North Bridge Commemoration Canceled due to Flooding; Concord Parade Still Scheduled for 9 a.m.

Flooding of the causeway near the North Bridge site at Minute Man National Historical Park has caused event coordinators to cancel the North Bridge Fight Commemoration, which was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 15. The town of Concord’s Patriots' Day parade is still scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will include the wreath  ceremony.

CONCORD, Mass. — Due to lingering flooding brought on by a series of recent storms, the National Park Service’s North Bridge Fight Commemoration scheduled for Monday, April 15, has been canceled.

Event coordinators at Minute Man National Historical Park determined that flooding of the causeway in the North Bridge area of the park has caused maintenance and safety concerns that would be exacerbated by increased foot traffic during the event.

The town of Concord’s Patriots’ Day parade is still scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, but the route will no longer include the parade marching through the park and over the North Bridge.

Minute Man’s North Bridge Commemoration was scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. to commemorate Patriots’ Day with a dramatic tactical demonstration involving colonial minute men, British regulars, and musket fire. The event marks the "shot heard round the world," which escalated the conflict between the American colonists and the British government.
