Juneteenth Observance
The Town of Co
ncord is committed to recognizing and commemorating Juneteenth National Independence Day. Juneteenth marks the anniversary announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas. President Joe Biden signed the legislation establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday in 2021.The holiday is a time to both celebrate African American history culture and reflect on how slavery affected our community and nation.
Events
On Monday, June 19, 2023, Juneteenth events kick off with a flag raising on Monument Square, followed by a day of programming open to all.
- 9 AM Flag Raising Monument Square
- 10 AM Family Program at the Concord Museum
- 10 AM African American People of Concord Walking Tour from the Concord Visitor Center
- 11 AM Tours at the Robbins House
- Noon - 4 PM Music-Food-Celebration at the Robbins House
Closures
In observance on Monday, June 19, 2023 town offices and departments will be closed. This includes the Town House, Council on Aging, Beede Center and the Concord Free Public Library and West Concord branch. Town offices will resume normal hours on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
