PFAS in FISH from the Concord River (May 2024)

Recent studies by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) have detected elevated levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in fish from the Concord River. These levels exceed the DPH Fish Action Level (FAL) of 0.22 parts per billion (ppb), suggesting potential health risks from regular consumption.

Health Advisory

Based on these findings, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has issued a new fish consumption advisory for the Concord River. This advisory recommends that sensitive populations, including children under 12 and individuals who are nursing, pregnant, or may become pregnant, should not consume any fish from this waterbody. The general population is advised not to eat Largemouth Bass and to limit consumption of other fish species to one meal per month.
