MUSIC APPRECIATION: MUSICAL CROSSROADS
Monday, October 1, 2018
Though we often think of popular and classical music as two distinct genres, they have heavily influenced each other for centuries. Bernstein and Gerschwin are obvious examples from the last century, but composers as old as Bach & Mozart, as romantic as Chopin & Liszt, as experimental as Stravinsky & Cage, and as current as Akiho & VanHassel have drawn inspiration from popular music. In turn, popular bands like Radiohead and the Beatles have taken ideas from their classical contemporaries and weaved ideas seamlessly into their music. Join CCM faculty member, concert pianist, and composer Keith Kirchoff for this series as he explores this musical intersection where the lines between genres will be blurred and the questions of whether something is classical or popular music will be rendered irrelevant. No musical background is required. Please call the COA to let us know you'll be joining the class even if you register at CCM. Payment of $144 to CCM is due at the first class.
