Program Background: The goal of the Town’s annual roads program is to recommend adequate investment in the Town’s 107 mile roadway network to ensure the network does not deteriorate to a point which would result in more costly periodic repairs. Utility improvement opportunities are also identified and implemented within the roads program when appropriate. This can include drainage replacements or enhancements, water main and sewer main replacements and/or private utility expansions from National Grid (gas main), Verizon (Broadband internet/cable), etc.
Project Overview: Monument Street is part of the 2017 Roads Program bid, which is valued at approximately $1,000,000.00. The project is scheduled to reconstruct 5.4 miles of roadway, reconstruct drainage as needed, and other incidental work.
Scope of Work: This phase of the 2017 Roads Program will begin in the spring/summer of 2018. In this phase, a portion of Monument Street is scheduled to receive roadway and drainage improvements. These improvements include the installation of 1,000 feet of new drainage pipe, 9 new drainage structures, and a mill and overlay pavement treatment. After the installation of the drainage infrastructure, the roadway will receive the mill and overlay pavement treatment. Please be advised, that during this portion of the construction there will be raised utility castings within the travel lanes prior to the installation of the top course of pavement. The reconstruction is then finalized by completing the remaining work which consists of line striping, loam & seeding disturbed roadway shoulders, blending driveway transitions (if necessary), and final clean-up.
Week of 4/23/18: CPW's contractor Lazaro Paving will begin installing construction signage, VMBS and erosion control along Monument Street. Drainage structures and pipe will also be delivered at this time. Week of 4/30/2018: Sub-contractor Fenton and Son will begin installing drainage along Monument Street between Liberty and Hutchins Farm. The drainage work is expected to take 3 weeks to complete. Please be advised there will be alternating traffic around the construction crews and expect minor delays. See schedule below for further details.
Update 5/21/2018: Sub-contractor Fenton and Son will be wrapping up the drainage improvements this week. Crews will be in to raise castings and temporarily asphalt patch the trench. Monument Street is tentatively scheduled for pavement milling the week of June 11th. Roadway improvement limits have been extended from Hutchins Farm to Ball's Hill Road.
